Bluum is a brand new Curiosity Engine that makes the Internet way more awesome.
But more specifically Bluum is a Google Chrome Extension that lets you explore, discover and learn more about any word, name or phrase on the web, just by highlighting it. Bluum runs in the background waiting to spring into action. When you Bluum a word, the Bluum window glides out onto the page and displays related wiki, pics, video, real-time news, tweets and more. You can watch YouTube videos, click on links, surf around and see what people are saying on twitter, all within the Bluum window. You don’t leave the page and you don’t have to open a new tab. When you’re done Bluuming, just click the Bluum tab and Bluum goes back into hiding so you can get back to whatever you were doing. Window-in-Window Browsing
Bluum is really handy as as a quick reference tool to learn more about something on the fly. But Bluum’s window-in-window feature opens up all kinds of new surfing possibilities. For instance, you can launch Pandora within Bluum and then hide it so it’s playing in the background while you read the news or work in a Google doc. Click the Bluum tab and it slides back out for easy access and without having to change tabs. Or use Bluum to display live sports scores on one side of the screen while you’re watching a video on the other. Open your email then hide it so it doesn't distract you, but still have quick access to it. You get the idea. There’s probably all kinds of uses for Bluum we haven’t even thought of. BetaBluum
Bluum is currently in Beta but we have big plans and are furiously working on new features that will make Bluum even more awesome. Right now all Bluum results are currently powered by Google, but we hope to start pulling content from multiple sources and let you customize your Bluum however you want.
